Pokémon card set finder

Published · Updated

Type what is printed on your card: the set code (such as PRE or MEW), the number after the slash (the 131 in 016/131) or part of the set name. The finder lists every set in our table that fits, with its release date, card count and a link to the set page. If more than one set fits, it shows all of them and says why.

Find your card’s set

A set code (PRE), the number after the slash (016/131) or part of the set name. You can mix them, such as MEW 120.

Try: PRE, 016/131, MEW 120, /086, silver tempest

1 set fits “silver tempest”

How we read it: Set name silver tempest

  1. Silver Tempest

Sword & Shield · First released in English 11 November 2022

    Database code
SIT (not printed on the card)
    Cards
    195 cards
    • Why: “silver”, “tempest” are in the set name.

The address of this page holds your entry, so you can bookmark it or send it to someone.

What can I type into the set finder?

Anything printed along the bottom of the card will do, in any order. The finder reads each part, checks it against its table and tells you which parts matched.

What the finder reads
You typeExampleWhat it does
A set codePRE, MEW, 30CFinds the set that prints that code beside the card number (Scarlet & Violet cards onwards).
Card number and total016/131Matches the number after the slash to a set’s main card count, then checks the card number fits inside that set.
Just the total/131 or 131Lists every set with that many cards in its main list.
Code and numberMEW 120Finds the set, then checks that card number 120 exists in it.
Part of the set nameprismatic, 151, silver tempestFinds sets with those words in their name.
A regulation markG 165Noted, but not used to pick a set, because several sets share each letter. The total does the work.

Why do I get more than one set?

Different sets can share a printed total. The number after the slash is the count of cards in a set’s main list, and some sets are the same size: Black Bolt, White Flare and Chaos Rising all print /086. When that happens the finder lists every set that fits. Add the set code (the letters beside the card number) or part of the set name to settle it.

What does a number higher than the total mean?

A card numbered 188/132 is not a misprint. Numbers above the total are the set’s secret cards, printed after the main list but part of the same set. The finder checks that your number fits inside the whole set and rules a set out if the number is higher than any card in it.

What does the finder not cover?

  • English cards only. Japanese sets are coded and numbered differently, so an English table will not match them. See Japanese vs English Pokémon cards.
  • Sets in our table. It holds the sets we have verified card counts for, plus every set we stock. A set that is not there is simply missing, not wrong: our guide shows how to look it up in a card database.
  • Older sets. Sword & Shield and earlier sets print a symbol, not a code. Silver Tempest and Base Set are in the table so you can match them by the number out of 195 or 102, but the abbreviations databases use for them (SIT, BS) are not printed on the cards.
  • Promos and gallery cards. A promo number has no “/total”, and a number with letters before the total (such as TG05/TG30) is numbered outside the main list. The finder cannot match those from the number.
  • Value. The finder identifies a set. It says nothing about what a card is worth, its condition or its rarity.

Where does the table come from?

Set codes and card counts are transcribed from TCGdex’s set records, read on 16 October 2026 for our set guides and cross-checked against the card numbers printed in those guides. The English release dates for the sets without a guide come from Serebii’s English set list, read on 17 October 2026. UK release dates come from our own set guides. Every source is listed at the foot of this page.

Questions people ask

How do I find out which set my Pokémon card is from?

Look along the bottom of the card for a three-letter set code beside the card number (cards from Scarlet & Violet onwards), or for a small set symbol on older cards. Type the code, the number after the slash, or part of the set name into the finder and it lists the sets that fit.

What does the number after the slash mean on a Pokémon card?

It is the number of cards in the set’s main list. On a card numbered 016/131, the card is number 16 of a 131-card main list. Numbers above the total, such as 188/132, are secret cards that still belong to the set.

Can two different sets have the same total?

Yes. Black Bolt, White Flare and Chaos Rising each print /086, so the total alone cannot separate them. The finder lists every match; adding the set code or part of the name narrows it down to one.

My card has no set code. What should I enter?

Older cards print a small set symbol instead of a code. Enter the number after the slash and, if you can, part of the set name. The original 1999 Base Set has no symbol at all and is numbered out of 102.

Does the set finder work for Japanese cards?

No. Japanese sets have their own names, codes and numbering, so an English table will not match them. Our Japanese vs English guide explains the differences and where to look them up.

Is the letter in a box on my card the set?

No. That is the regulation mark, which shows which cards are legal in the Standard tournament format, and several sets share each letter. The finder notes it but uses the set code, the total or the name to find the set.
